UAE regulator to block BlackBerry services
The ban covers BlackBerry messenger, e-mail and web browsing.
O yeah???? What has left to call it a SMARTPHONE?? :O
We hardly digested the reason why the BBM service should be banned, but why do they feel the need to ban emails and web browsing services?
Soon I will announce my divorce with my BB. Anything but our security. lol

BTW, iphones have a similar service to the BBM, what's gonna happen?

Also, everybody's bitching about Du and Etisalat as if they have anything to do with this ban. They don't.

There are two nice Apps on iPhone that you can use: WhatsApp, and pMessenger. Both of them are cross-platform messaging. Which means you can chat with people who own different devices such as an Android and BB.

El shahlab, yup! I have the pMessenger in my BB to contact with my iphone user chums. But I'm wondering what's the point of banning the BBM service when there is an exactly similar alternative in iphones?
The device called Android is new to me.

Rose, this ban is merely for UAE's electronic jurisdiction violation. Because data is managed in a different country (Canada), some people get away from legal complication that are not applied in Canada. Besides, I think that when a consumer's information is sent overseas and managed by a different country, that is a violation to a privacy act. Also, this argument was taking place for years between the UAE and RIM, but it caught the media's attention because the BB is widely used now and not just restricted to business use but also for everyone to use it.
If Canada, USA, UK, and India manage its own data from RIM, why can't the UAE do the same?

And what that tells you? Why they all managed to come to an agreement with RIM except us? I believe all that was just a drama to convince the public with the ban.
