A British holidaymaker has been charged with indecency in Dubai after walking through the world's largest shopping centre in a bikini.
The woman was buying clothes and gifts in the Dubai Mall, fully dressed but in a low-cut top, when she was accosted by an Arabic woman and criticised for wearing 'revealing clothing'.
The pair then became embroiled in a heated row in front of hundreds of bemused shoppers.
Incensed by the Arabic woman's comments, the British woman told her to 'mind her own business' before stripping out of her clothes and 'taunting' the locals by walking around in only her bikini, it is alleged.

A tourist? Taunting the locals? And what has she gained doing that now? She's being rotten in the prison for months for not being able to show a little respect to the country's culture. Plus, Emirati women are doing better job than...Daaa...Dubai police :) . I don't know why it has always to be 'British' who are held for similar charges, in their malls in London I think they don't walk around in Bikinies, do they? then why she felt the need to do so here? just to taunt? I don't think it's the way to go here, enjoy your holiday behind the bars!!
You don't have to accept others beliefs/practices/rules, but showing some respect to others cultures is a mark of civilization, especially when you are just a tourist. O_O

I don't know what happend, or what the lady was wearing as I wasn't there.
That sai, I tempted to take some pictures of everyday 'summer wear' in this city, and post them on my blog. It's not the modesty that's missing anymore, it's how SOME folks think they can carry off a mini miniature mini mouse dress, when they are almost 200 pounds!!
Then there are the long sleeves, and the shortest bottoms / skirts. And when they sit on the subway or the public bus, it's a constant tangle to 'pull' the skirt down (when there is so little material to begin with) to 'cover' the underwear, the thunder thighs that is visible to all.
uggh? yes!
Lol! You couldn't pay me to wear a bikini even at a pool! I'm too old for that! Even at a mall here in Kansas I am pretty sure the mall security would ask you to leave if you were wearing a bikini! At the same time you wouldn't have to worry about going to prison for such an action but it would still be looked at as ridiculous!
You find tarts everywhere but walking around in a bikini isn't acceptable even in the UK.
Leanne, I didn't realize you were from Kansas. We have couple of our business units in Kansas city (the Kansas side) and I just love visiting, interacting with the folks there - love the Kansans. People are so much nicer, simpler, so easy to talk to and friendly to NYC.
The issue on appropriate clothing, let me just say, the acceptable attire in the UAE is quite similar to Kansas. It's like what Firefox said, tarts and chavs are everywhere. If you visit NYC in the summer, you will be either shocked or disgusted, or both. Some people wear the most unpleasant / uncouth clothing, to look good! For instance, I don't know how a 200 or 250 pound woman can look good in a mini mouse kinda short skirt in fluorescent ORANGE, that barely cover her back side -- I'm not kidding. Or how displaying, the Popeye the sailor man tattoo on one's butt crack for the whole world to see, is a sign of class, beauty or grace. Or wearing a 'barely there' top that can barely CONTAIN over sized /silicone implant boobies (with the blood veins in display, kid you not) is something to look at?
I could go on. But I think Dubai seem to attract more than some of the chavs from the UK. That said, it can get sort of testy / subjective in the UAE, because we do not have clear cut guidelines, but more importantly, it is clearly the place where East indeed meets the West, and people are learning to accept and adapt in the everyday ways of life. It's going to take time, but I think, in the long haul, things shall be fine.
